Laura M. Slot (1984) is an independent historian and writer with a focus on outsiders in twentieth century intellectual history, the history of ideas. She received graduate degrees from the department of history at Utrecht University in The Netherlands and Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in New York.
Laura’s first book described the limits of philosopher Bertrand Russell’s pacifism. Her second book, a guide for readers and writers of history, will be published Fall 2026.
While growing up in The Netherlands, Laura started writing at a young age. She published several newspapers from age eight onwards, and taught herself English by translating song lyrics with a dictionary.
In academic environments, Laura works to expand the dominant school of thought known as physicalism. Her scholarly work revolves around the ‘unseen’ worlds of human thoughts, feelings, will power, impulses and ideas. She reveals a rich, mighty world of driving forces, as well as the often tragic fates of many unsung heroes.
Laura founded Old Revolutions Press in 2025, partially inspired by the old Black Sparrow Press in California, which from the 1960s onwards singlehandedly published all of Charles Bukowski’s works and enabled him to quit his job as a clerk at the post office. Between 1972 and 1978 this publishing house also published Sparrow, an artistic magazine.
Old Revolutions Press publishes old and new books on non-physicalist, spiritual history, art and religion, as well as facsimile editions of rare and relevant antique books. Books are distributed worldwide, mostly through print-on-demand, in English, German, Turkish and Dutch.
Laura has previously worked in linguistics for European and American book- and magazine publishers, well-known lawyers and technology companies.
Her languages are Dutch, English, Venloosch, some German and some Turkish.
